Plastic Free Everything (“we,” “our,” or “us”) runs plasticfreeeverything.org (the “Site”). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Site, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.
The short version: we do not sell your personal information, we do not run ads, and we only collect what we need to run the Site, send the newsletter you sign up for and answer your messages.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter: your email address when you subscribe.
- Contact form: your name, email address and message. Messages are delivered to our email inbox.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, the name, email address and website you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser details (used for spam checks).
Information collected automatically
- Analytics: pages you view, how long you stay, the site or search that referred you, your device and browser type, and approximate location (city or region). We use Google Analytics, connected through Google Site Kit.
- Security logs: IP address, browser details, pages requested and login attempts, collected by our security plugin to block attacks and spam.
2. How we use it
- To send the newsletter you asked for
- To reply to your messages and publish comments
- To understand which guides are useful and improve the Site
- To keep the Site secure and filter spam
- To comply with the law
3. Affiliate links
Some links on the Site are affiliate links, including links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, Plastic Free Everything earns from qualifying purchases. When you click one of these links, the retailer may set its own cookies to record that the visit came from us. We do not receive your name, payment details or order information. The retailer’s own privacy policy applies on its site, for example Amazon’s Privacy Notice.
4. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, to count visits and see which pages are read
- Functional cookies from WordPress, for example to remember your details if you leave a comment
- Security cookies from our security plugin, to tell real visitors from bots
We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share limited information only with the service providers that help run the Site:
- Google (Google Analytics and Site Kit), for site analytics
- MailerLite, which stores newsletter subscriber emails and sends the newsletter
- Automattic (Akismet), which checks comments for spam
- Defiant (Wordfence), which provides our security plugin
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the Site and its data
We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the Site and its visitors.
6. How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it
- Messages: as long as needed to respond and follow up
- Comments: as long as the comment stays published
- Analytics and security logs: for the periods set in Google Analytics and our security plugin, after which they are deleted automatically
7. Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link in any email. Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct it
- Delete it
Depending on where you live, for example in Colorado, California or another US state with a privacy law, or in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under that law, such as the right to data portability or to object to certain processing. We will honor requests as the applicable law requires. To make a request, email plasticfreeeverything@gmail.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it.
8. Where your information is stored
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. If you visit from outside the United States, your information will be transferred there.
9. Children’s privacy
The Site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version.
